Afterhours@ACM: ACM’s 9th-century Tang Shipwreck Treasures On Show in NYC!

Description

ACM’s 9th-century Tang Shipwreck Treasures On Show in NYC!

8 March 2017, 7 to 10 pm

Book now at $98 per person, or at $120 on the day of the event.

ACM is proud to have sent highlights of the 9th-century treasures from the famous Tang Shipwreck to New York City for an exhibition at Asia Society – Secrets of the Sea: A Tang Shipwreck and Early Trade in Asia. For the first time ever, American audiences can view the Chinese ceramics, gold and silver objects, and bronze mirrors recovered in the cargo of this fascinating find.

Special guest, Professor John Miksic, National University of Singapore, will relate the Tang Shipwreck to the tales of Sinbad in the Arabian Nights. The fictional, Middle-Easterner Sinbad sailed in the Singapore region around the same time that the Tang ship sunk off Belitung Island in the Java Sea. Miksic will discuss ports of call and maritime activities in the time of Sinbad – and the Tang Shipwreck.

Commemorate this prestigious occasion with us. Tea is the theme this month – the ship was carrying over 55,000 tea bowls! Enjoy delicious treats of tea-infused Middle-Eastern and Chinese canapés with pairings of crisp rosé wines. A perfect way to beat the Singaporean heat.
